Rolling with the Punches

Thanks to everyone who wrote in responding to last week’s letter on lyric inspiration, that clearly resonated with a lot of you – I’m working my way through all the responses for a future video.

I’m still deep in tour mode, with less than one month to go, so will be keeping these letters relatively brief while I deal with my to-do list – which grows with each passing day.

At the moment, touring feels like pure logistics. My carefully laid plans for a vinyl top-up have just hit an unwelcome snag, as the delivery that was supposed to arrive a week before the tour, has just been rescheduled to mid-way through the tour – definitely not ideal.

So, this week’s message to roll with the punches, is as much a pep talk to myself as it is to you.

There will always be hiccups, and I take comfort that it happens to even the biggest stars.

Last week I saw Adele perform in Munich – stunning show, more on that at a later date – but I took some comfort in remembering that back in January 2022, she, megastar that she is, had to cancel her Vegas residency twenty-four hours before the first show, citing half her team having Covid, missed deliveries, and a host of other logistical problems.

So, I know that there will always be stressful problems to deal with.

It’s easy to forget that it’s all leading up to that incredible moment when you’re stood onstage, playing your songs to people who have taken time out of their lives to come and see you, and you look them in the eye, and hope that you move them.

Last week Adele made us all feel so special, and think that looking into the whites of her eyes, she felt that connection too.

I think – and hope – that that feeling never goes away, not matter how big you get.
